Originally from Maryland, Margaret Boswell is a pedagogue, pianist, and composer currently based in the Boston area.
She holds a BM in Composition and Keyboard Studies from Samford University, an MM in Composition from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Longy School of Music. Her studies have included compositional instruction with Joel Davis, Mark Lackey, John Morrison, and Paul Brust, and piano instruction under Kathryn Fouse, and Esther Ning Yau.
As a passionate educator, she is the co-founder of Attacca School of Music in Belmont, MA where she acts as both Administrative Director and Piano Department Director. She teachers piano, composition, theory, coaching chamber music, and accompanying students of all ages. Her strong affinity for teaching stems from her love of constantly exploring the pedagogy of the piano and helping students to reach their potential as artists.
As a composer, she enjoys creating pieces that are built on emotion and a nostalgic feel for the listener that fuse both her classical and popular training backgrounds. Her most recent work, an arrangement of a traditional Ukrainain Folk Song for piano trio can be heard here. It was recently premiered at the 2022 Cremona International Music Festival in Cremona, Italy. Her works have been performed by Sybarite 5, the Amernet String Quartet, Duo con Fuoco, the Horzsowksi Trio, Ensemble Uncaged, and the Longy Conservatory Orchestra. As well as concert music, Margaret is an active composer of music for film, including a recent short film titled ‘Chasing Kites’. As a singer/songwriter, she has been heard live on NPR affiliate WTMD’s The Baltimore Hit Parade radio show and co-wrote an EP with her Atlanta based band Halter Kids. In the last few years she has had the privilege to see her compositions performed by artists like Syberite 5, The Amernet String Quartet, Duo con Fuoco, the Horzsowksi Trio, the Longy School of Music Orchestra, and more.
